Job Description

Operates a 966 FEL to transport salt to the loading hoppers.  Requires employee to climb small ladder to gain access.  Requires good eye/hand coordination for use of control levers.  Must have ability to judge distances due to working in rather small areas with large pieces of equipment.

Performs preshift on 966 FEL.  Requires employee to climb access ladder, bend, stoop and twist.  Completes the required preshifts documents.

Operates conveyors to load salt into barges.  Must possess good verbal and written skills to give instruction to deck hands and tugboat crew on spotting barges, loading barges, and pulling barges.  Must complete required reports.

Mixes different additives to be added as salt is loaded.  Must be able to read and interpret the Material Safety Data Sheets and adjust flow of additives.

Cleans up working areas and along conveyors and uses a shovel, broom and wheelbarrow for extended periodss.  Requires the employee to bend, stoop, twist and lift.  Lifting would be limited to 65 pounds.

May use simple hand tools in performing minor repairs and assists mechanics in major repairs.  Requires the employee to climb steps, stairs, bend, stoop, twist and lift.  Lifting would be limited to 65 pounds.  Must have good eye/hand coordination.

Stands, sits, or walks for long periods of time.

Must be able to work productively in a group environment.

Under the direction of the Screen Plant/Barge Loading Foreman, operates loader as directed. Operates loader for use in general yard work, such as moving materials, leveling areas, general cleanup, moving heavy equipment, etc. When loading barges, pushes salt from storage pile onto barge loading conveyor. Directs the work of Bargetender/Deckhands, or others used in barge loading. When loading barges must be able to read and understand barge loading instructions to load barges with the proper grades of salt and to the correct draft. Fills out the required paperwork when barges have been completed. Mixes ingredients, keeps mixing tanks at proper levels and monitors ingredient flow to insure proper amounts added to the salt. Monitors the operations of the automatic sampler and splits samples down for the lab. Does minor repairs and may assist mechanics with other repairs. Does other work as directed. Normally requires 3 months to 1 year's experience and training to qualify.

Essential job functions are performed primarily indoors, but employee is exposed to hot, humid, wet, dusty, cool and cold environment.
