Job Description

The Human Resources Director, Operations is the business partner to Operations, responsible for leading and directing human resource initiatives that enable Morton Salt to achieve desired business results.  Initially, most of the focus will be on the optimization of the structure within the Operations leadership team, optimization of the structure of the field human resource organization, talent development and diversity initiatives for leadership at the manufacturing plant level, and evaluation of the status and the productivity of the existing human resource programs.
The Human Resource Director, Operations can be creative and will need to be entrepreneurial.  They will not only be involved with Operations but they will also be a part of the Human Resource Leadership Team and will help brand Morton Salt to be known as a great employer for whom to work. This individual must be able to take on additional responsibilities and, in the longer term be viewed as a successor candidate to the Vice President, Human Resources and/or move into a larger role within Morton Salt or K+S.

Responsibilities Responsibilities:
•         Together with the Vice President, Operations, and the Director of Health & Safety, put in place the necessary employee relations practices, organizational design, talent and change management, compensation, training and development, succession, and retention programs and ensure their achievement. 
•         Diagnose areas of organizational strength and weakness and establish and implement a human resources plan for human capital effectiveness.
•         Serve as a member of the Human Resources leadership team in shaping, developing and implementing a best-in-class enterprise Human Resources strategy.
•         Bring best-in-class programs and processes to manufacturing and the Human Resource function overall.
•         Develop and implement legally compliant, cost-effective and competitive employment strategies and policies.
Experience and Skills:
•         At least 10-12 years of progressive Human Resource experience rotating through various field, corporate and functional roles.
•         Ideally, has been a member of the Human Resources Leadership team of a large, highly regarded, fast-paced manufacturing organization known for excellence in Human Resources supply chain management.
•         A mix of plant and headquarters experience with the plant experience heavy in employee relations.
•         Worked in a mid-sized to large, “best HR practices” organization and had responsibility/exposure to most of the following key functions:  Manufacturing, Labor, Logistics & Customer Service, and Procurement, Transportation, and Organizational effectiveness.
•         Possess incisive and strategic understanding of complex issues and offerings, and have championed, implemented and successfully executed broad-based Human Resources solutions. 
•         Have the intellect, confidence and presence accumulated over years of experience in addressing issues in diverse business situations with most levels of management.
•         Exposure to a union, collective bargaining environment is a plus.
•         Food and Beverage industry experience would be a plus, but not required.
•         Have demonstrated strong process and diagnostics skills, coupled with successful execution and implementation experience.
•         Been responsible for diagnosis, strategy, design and effective implementation of solutions.
•         Has led and managed teams of other HR professionals,  preferably with team members that are geographically separated.

Qualifications Education:
Undergraduate Degree required and a Master’s in Labor Relations or an MBA very strongly preferred.  Professional certifications are a plus as is active participation in a national Human Resources leadership organization.

•         Have strong interpersonal skills.  Will be a good listener with outstanding interpersonal qualities and a natural, effective consultative style.  The successful candidate will be sought out for his/her opinions and counsel, and will forge and maintain close relationships, both internally and externally.
•         Be an outstanding communicator. Will possess superior written/oral communication skills, as well as the ability to present his/her views in a clear and compelling manner.
•         Be an effective leader.  Will have strong presence and work well across all levels of the organization.  Will have the proven ability to set an agenda and personally build support and commitment at all levels of the organization.
