Job Description

Working in a matrix organization this position will be part of the Global HR Center of Excellence within Europe & Americas; reporting to VP, Human Resources Americas with anticipated future structure to full CoE concept.

1.       Provide leadership for the design, development, implementation and administration of benefits programs including health and welfare plans, and defined benefit and defined contribution plans (both qualified and non-qualified).
2.       Collaborate on strategy, engage in research for the design, development, implementation and administration of compensation for the U.S. and Canada (Morton Salt, Windsor Salt & K+S Potash Canada).  These programs include base pay and cash incentive compensation plans, sales incentive plans, etc.
3.    Represent K+S in related third-party vendor relationships as assigned.
4.    Report on the performance of Americas compensation and benefit plans.
5.    Advise senior management regarding the application of sound compensation and benefits principles and practices.
 
 
 
 
 

Responsibilities   
1.    Under the direction of the CoE Total Rewards, collaborate on the development of strategies for Americas that integrate compensation programs into offerings that attract, retain and reward critical talent in a cost effective manner.
2.    Under the strategic direction of the CoE responsible to develop, execute and sustain direct compensation programs to support business strategies. (i.e. sales incentive compensation, production incentives, etc.)
3.    Provide subject matter expertise - accurately interpreting, counseling, communicating, and educating Human Resource business partners, managers and executives on pay decisions, policy and guideline interpretations, and job evaluations for current and new positions.
4.    Develop and maintain competitive, cost effective benefits programs for Americas. This includes responsibility for the development of a competitive benefits structure and the management of third-party vendors, carriers and administrators.
5.    Oversee Americas health and insurance programs, including wellness initiatives, retirement and savings programs, leave of absence administration, and all other related work and life events
6.    Support the system business owner responsible for all HRIS operations, both internal and through third-party vendors. Ensure necessary systems, reporting (analytics) and processes are in place to efficiently meet business needs.
7.    Manage the overall payroll function to ensure efficient operations, control and legal requirements.
8.    Provide content expertise and strategy direction for communications associated with employee compensation and benefit programs.
9.    Ensure compliance with legal requirements associated with compensation and benefits plans, by maintaining expert knowledge of pay and benefit laws/regulations, providing oversight and guidance of internal procedure to ensure compliance,  participant communications and consistency. Ensure that all welfare and retirement plans (health, dental, vision, life, disability, FSA, FLSA, FMLA, COBRA, ERISA, 403b, etc.) meet legal, regulatory and audit compliance.
10.  Serve as the Savings Plan Administrator and the Health Insurance Privacy Officer.
11.  Manage the Foreign Service assignment process, including documentation and related legal matters (via third party).
12.  Manage unemployment and related compliance matters.
  
Financial / Budgetary Control:
 
 1.   Overall manages major vendor contracts (benefits, pension and payroll that are up to $5 million.  There is a direct spending of over $35 million in employee benefits and a pension portfolio of defined benefit and defined contribution of $300 million.
2.    Decision-making authority as the Savings Plan Administrator, as outlined in the K+S / Morton Salt 401(k) Savings Plan.
3.    Decision-making authority as the Privacy Officer, as outlined in the K+S / Morton Salt 401(k) Privacy Policy.   
 
 
 

Qualifications A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, or related area is required

Master’s degree in a related area is strongly preferred.  Holder of CEBS (Certified Employee Benefits Specialist) or CCP (Certified Compensation Professional) or progress toward certification preferred.


 7-10 years’ experience of benefits and compensation design and administration including solid experience in managing or directing the HRIS and Payroll functions. 

4+ years of HR leadership experience  and hands-on experience managing people, processes and policies.
Requires experience in conducting risk assessment and the ability to proactively identify risk and control issues with Total Rewards.


Ability to effectively translate quantitative and qualitative data into actionable insights, strategies and plans and to articulate data visually and in an understandable manner. Effective at leading, and communicating with executive leadership, but with the ability and willingness to play a 'hands-on' role with key projects and work streams.
Requires highly developed interpersonal, facilitation, and team building skills with a talent for leading working groups.


Experience to work in a multinational virtual team would be an advantage, willingness to work in a multicultural team across borders (U.S., Canada, South America, Europe) is mandatory
Strong demonstrated transformational and complex, matrixed leadership skills (inspiring, problem solving, communication, executing), must be well organized, able to work under time constraints, and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
