Job Description

Responsible for the overall activities of the Engineering department.  Perform engineering and cost estimating for capital appropriation requests to maintain plant operations.  Assist in the overall improvement of plant operations through defect elimination, asset utilization, process enhancements, etc.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain a safe working environment.  Understand, follow and support company policies, procedures, (i.e. lockout/tagout, hot work, confined space, etc.) in addition to corporate and local safety initiatives.  Assume responsibility for risk assessment.  Manage and encourage all employees and contractors to be proactive in the area of safety, including anticipating unsafe behaviors, conditions and unusual circumstances.
  • Prepare projects and supervise the installation of projects through the engineering staff, including Project and/or Process Engineers and/or Control Technicians.
  • Ensure completed projects function as intended.
  • Report on project progress from approval through completion.
  • Assist maintenance and various production departments as requested to expedite equipment repairs and improve plant efficiency.
  • Accept special assignments, responsibilities and duties as they arise.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with all Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point Program (HACCP) requirements in the facility through the completion of work by the maintenance department, contractor and capital and expense projects and other improvements.  Inform the General Manager and QC Manager of any issues, understanding the importance of product safety, quality and legality.
  • Is familiar with the Environmental Management System policy, procedures or work instructions and understands the potential consequences of departure from the requirement.  Notify management of any observed potential complaince issues or nonconformities.
 
Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree in engineering, preferably mechanical, chemical, or electrical.  Proven ability to apply engineering principles to concrete problems and opportunities.  Ability to plan and carry out project assignments.
  • Three to five years of supervisory experience.
  • A self-starter who is capable of managing and performing multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a problem solving team.
  • Recognize and respect diverse perspectives expressed by team members, peers or superiors.
  • Above average written and oral communication skills.
