  • 3 or more years’ underground mining experience OR Bachelor’s degree AND 1+ year underground mining experience.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience within mining industry.

  • Must be able to obtain State of Ohio Underground Foreman’s Certification within one years’ time and deemed a competent person by CFR30 57.2 within six months' time.

  • Knowledge of federal mining laws (MSHA) and mining methods

Job Requirements

Reporting to the Mine Superintendent, this person will be responsible for providing technical knowledge, operations experience and management skills at a first line supervisory level in the daily direction and performance of production related activities/functions. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for ensuring the mining operations operate safely and effectively to meet the needs of the business. 

  • Lead the mining operation with minimal downtime and maximum productivity while maintaining a safety focused, MSHA compliant work environment.  Empower employees and maintain positive employee relations at all levels of the organization, creating a culture of continuous improvement and ownership.

  • Supervise, coordinate, and provide leadership to assigned personnel.  Train employees with established safety, operating and maintenance, rules and regulations.  Hold personnel accountable for their job performance through coaching and discipline if necessary. 

  • Develop a team environment, encompassing staff at all levels and expertise, that utilizes individual, site and corporate strengths to meet daily business needs, solve problems, develop and implement long-term goals and objectives.

  • Maintain established safety and health policies and regulations.  Conduct employee training in accident and fire prevention, MSHA requirements, and other employee safety processes. Distribute educational materials and information, audits mining areas and initiates the correction of hazardous situations for compliance with MSHA regulations.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
