Job Description

The Sr. Indirect Tax Accountant works under the supervision of the Manager, Indirect Taxes to meet the compliance requirements for State Sales and Use Taxes and Indirect Taxes for K+S affiliates in the US. The Sr. Indirect Tax Accountant interacts with other members of the accounting, finance, and operations teams to obtain the necessary information. This position will also be heavily involved in state audits which will include onsite and desk  audits.
•           This position will be primarily involved in State Sales and Use Taxes, as well as other Indirect Taxes. Other duties may include indirect taxes in the region, i.e. Canada, and Bahamas.
•           The Sr. Indirect Tax Accountant will help identify and implement Indirect Tax process improvements to better leverage systems, data, and tax department resources to improve sales and use tax compliance, and to improve quality and reduce costs

Manage the sales, use, and excise tax audits and reverse audits and calendar. Researching, planning, and completion of audits using proper audit methods and techniques. Communicating audit findings and issues with management. Applying technical knowledge of tax laws, regulations, rulings, and court decisions in order to successfully analyze and properly resolve audit issues. Reviewing audit reports and able to clearly define technical and factual conclusions and make recommendations to management. Reviewing and analyzing both manual and electronic records when determining compliance – make recommendations if there are gaps. Development of ideas and planning opportunities with the Indirect Tax Manager to mitigate adjustments and assessments.
•           Helps oversee the outsourced preparation of State Sales and Use Taxes, property taxes, information reports and other related tax compliance items.
•           Capture and analyze SAP account data, reconcile tax related accounts, Reviews reconciliations done by the indirect tax accountant.
•           Draft responses to inquiries from tax authorities, outside consultants, and other business associates.
•           Monitor and identify new or revised state and local tax law changes which could impact the company.
•           Help identify and implement Indirect Tax process improvements to better leverage systems and data and tax department resources to improve sales and use, income tax, and apportionment data. Helps improve quality and reduce costs.
•           Analyze Indirect Tax returns. Identifies tax filing positions that will impact compliance processes.
•           Research, analyze, and interpret new or revised state and local tax law changes to determine potential impact on company tax profile.
•           Prepare written documentation of processes & tax research findings.
•           Special Projects as assigned.
•           Prioritize and handle multiple tasks, and work under shifting deadlines.

1. Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited college or university. CPA, Masters in Taxation or Accounting is preferred. 8-10 years of progressive proven Indirect Tax experience including:
•           Sales Tax Audit (Public Accounting or large corporate): 5 years - Manufacturing experience a plus.
•           State and local sales/use tax compliance experience in a multistate environment.
•           Vertex O Series v7.0 or higher.
•           Experience in developing and executing Indirect Tax strategies.
•           Multitasking and being a team player with excellent communications.
•           Extensive knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) and Adobe products.
