Job Description

This position is responsible for applying full knowledge of Environmental practices and standards. This position provides organization wide coordination in all environmental program areas including air, water, and waste program management, as well as, assisting in compliance strategies for these programs. This position will also be one that may interface with local, state and federal agencies. Additionally  coordination of organization wide environmental data management and processes, as well as, program development and implementation of sustainability programs may also be necessary. 

Responsibilities 1.       Assesses moderately complex environmental risks and opportunities and potential impacts on stakeholder (customer, community, interest groups, employees) priorities, or enterprise/ business/location strategy. Develops workable strategies to mitigate/eliminate compliance risks and provides recommendations to Director and/or business partners as required.
2.       Leads and/or assists in the development of programs and processes involving interpretation of environmental regulations, standards, and/or internal policies  to execute the Environmental and Sustainability strategy.
3.       Actively advances sustainability efforts through frequent benchmarking both internally and externally to identify best practices of others, consistent with and in support of the Environmental and Sustainability strategy that can be applied effectively throughout the organization.
4.       Supports internal communication strategy for key audiences that builds and maintains awareness of Environmental and Sustainability values, strategies, and performance; develops talent; and recognizes high performance. Supports leaders to promote proactive workplace Environmental and Sustainability practices.
Analyze new and complex business projects against current and anticipated future regulatory requirements and provide practical, workable solutions to the business.
6.       Work with sites to ensure compliance by providing interpretations and guidance, assisting with the preparation of and ongoing maintenance of environmental licenses and permits, providing review and feedback regarding non-routine environmental reporting and communications, and conducting site audits and compliance reviews.
7.       Keep up-to-date with regulatory activities and directions on environmental issues of interest to Morton Salt. Provide input on proposed laws and regulations affecting the Company and provide compliance updates and training to site personnel.
8.       Maintains and continuously improves environmental results by supporting a culture of open idea exchange. Provides operational/tactical leadership to complex Environmental audit, inspection and risk assessment processes. Using full knowledge of Environmental practices and standards, reviews and analyzes audit results requiring some interpretation, to confirm that the corporate, business and government Environmental standards are met
Provide leadership and guidance concerning sustainability programs in a fast paced, cross functional and highly collaborative environment. Prioritize initiatives and resources to maximize effectiveness.

Qualifications Qualifications and Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Affairs or other Environmental related fields
Master Degree preferred
5+ years of experience in manufacturing or an industrial related field
5+ years environmental or other applicable regulatory affairs
Experience with Environmental compliance, permitting, and auditing required.
Functional / Technical Expertise:
Comprehensive and advanced knowledge and understanding of relevant technical requirements and regulatory compliance including Air Permitting and regulatory reporting (Title V, Subpart OOO, NPDES, SARA, RCRA, SPCC)
Knowledge of air permitting requirements and air pollution abatement and control measures for production processes and equipment
Knowledge of storm water permitting requirements and related reporting requirements
Demonstrated understanding of the relationship between  business activities and relevant regulatory state, local and regulatory requirements
Experience with management systems and standards specifically ISO 14001
Proven ability to use critical thinking skills and rigorous logic and methods to solve challenging issues with effective solutions related to regulatory compliance.
Advanced written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills to effectively address complex matters.
