Job Description

1.    Plan, develop and implement labor relations strategy for Morton Salt facilities in the United States, Canada and Bahamas, with responsibility for all labor relations matters and related employee relations issues.
2.    Manage the company's position during union organizing drives, negotiate and execute collective bargaining agreements, and resolve union-related disputes.
3.    Advise operations management on a broad range of employment regulations.
4. Represent Morton Salt in arbitration cases and before the National Labor Relations Board. Partner closely with internal & external counsel to resolve arbitration matters before the National Labor Relations board.

Responsibilities 1.    Prepare and negotiate labor agreements for Morton Salt facilities in North America.   Draft contract proposals and counterproposals, and prepare labor agreements for final signatures.  Prepare and distribute labor contract settlement summaries to senior management.
2.    Provide guidance to operations management in dealing with potential labor disputes, strikes and other concerted activity.  Counsel facility managers and supervisors on the appropriate courses of action involving the satisfactory resolution of disputes.
3.    Develop and implement best practices for preventing union organizing activity and succeeding in representative elections.
4.    Work closely with in-house counsel and external labor counsel. Manage the resolution of arbitrations and unfair labor charges.
5.    Maintain a focus on strategic labor relations linked to business strategy. 
6.    Develop business plans that describe the cost impact of contract negotiations.
7.    Represent Morton Salt during National Labor Relations Board proceedings, including hearings, arbitrations and grievances.  Recommend courses of action during grievance procedures including whether arbitrating a grievance is the appropriate method of resolution.
8.    Provide guidance to Operations & Field HR Managers on Labor Relations issues.
9.    Collaborate with functional areas (Total Rewards, Corporate Communications, Legal, Operations, Supply Chain) when needed to address labor issues or during contract negotiations.
10. Communicate labor relations issues to the senior leadership team and to operations leaders. 

Qualifications - Bachelor's degree required. Master's or J.D. in Labor & Employment Law a plus
- 8-12 years of relevant experience 
- Experience with resolving NLRB claims against the company
- Proven success with influencing Operations Management & HR Management on Labor Relations matters.
