Overview

Coordinates and maintains the site’s environmental health & safety programs and related documentation in accordance with governmental and corporate requirements.  Develops and conducts employee / contractor EHS training and general EHS communications. Conducts EHS related drills, evacuations and audits.  Provides guidance & support to managers and employees for successfully driving continual improvement in the site’s Environmental Health and Safety Management System and safety culture. Works closely with managers, technical staff, employees and contractors to achieve EHS related key performance indicators.

Responsibilities

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Coordinator is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

•        Assisting with the development & implementation of site specific EHS, industrial hygiene, & security policies & procedures in compliance with regulatory & corporate requirements.
•        Providing guidance & support to employees regarding EHS questions, concerns, & requirements.
•        Identifying & evaluating EHS risks & ensuring proper risk reduction & control measures are implemented.
•        Coaching and mentoring management and employees on safe work practices and behaviors.
•        Ensuring effective EHS related training is developed and completed according to the training plan.
•        Performing EHS inspections, audits, drills and self-assessments to ensure and validate compliance with all regulatory and company requirements.
•        Measuring, monitoring, and reporting site specific EHS related key performance indicators to management and Corporate EHS.
•        Ensuring timely and effective completion of EHS related corrective and preventive action plans.
•        Coordinating investigations of EHS related incidents & ensuring proper escalation, root cause analysis, and completion of sustainable corrective actions.
•        Completing Industrial Hygiene assessments & monitoring in accordance with annual monitoring plan.
•        Validating a fire safety program is in place to ensure proper functionality of sprinkler systems and alarms.
•        Completing required internal and external EHS related recordkeeping & reporting.
•        Under the guidance of management, acting as the primary contact for external EHS related regulators.
•        Maintaining site’s EHS incentive program to achieve corporate objectives & maintain costs within budget.
•        Facilitating EHS teams focusing on increasing employee engagement & empowerment.
•        Tracking & trending injuries, near miss events, safety observations, and property damage incidents.
•        Staying current on government regulations and emerging issues and trends in EHS.

Qualifications

- Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Environmental Health & Safety, EHS Management, or related field OR 1-3 years of related EHS experience in an industrial manufacturing setting.
- Working knowledge of environmental permitting and regulations (air, waste, etc.).
- Experience in performing Industrial Hygiene testing (Noise, CO, Dust, Ventilation, etc.).
- Ability to influence others and present recommendations.
- Demonstrated ability to be part of and work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Able to demonstrate a thorough and comprehensive understanding of relevant standards.
- Creative thinking skills with the ability to balance multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
- Possesses basic knowledge of technical information regarding relevant EHS elements.
- Experience in developing and/or implementing ISO 14001, ISO 45001, OHSAS 18001 or related ISO Management System preferred.
Flexible in working during non-business hours to meet business needs.
