Job Description


Provide leadership and direction in establishing and achieving a meaningful Health & Safety (H&S) vision and effective strategies by collaborating with front-line leaders and business partners to develop H&S strategies aligning with the site needs and Morton Salt’s goals.

Responsibilities Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate, organize, implement and develop all Health, Safety & Security activities to maintain and ensure compliance with Morton Salt, Federal, State and Local standards & regulations. Strong knowledge of MSHA.
  • Accompany State, MSHA, Factory Mutual, Elevator, etc. Inspectors during their inspections and act as company
  • spokesperson regarding citation, recommendations, violations, and complaints. Follow up on corrective action.
  • Responsible for the management of the site safety program, including tracking of Near Misses, Safety Observations, injuries and management of the employee safety incentive program, when applicable.
  • Trends safety performance for improvement and conducts monthly inspections and audits of facility.
  • Conducts incident investigations and coordinates with responsible management to promote and track corrective and preventative actions.
  • Oversees master calendar for safety training events and ensures training is completed according to schedule.
  • Oversees mine rescue training program and other emergency response procedures.
  • Ensure that industrial hygiene monitoring is done according to the industrial hygiene program; document and interpret results and prepare executive summaries in a timely manner.
  • Acts as the subject matter expert on Health & Safety technical issues that arise during the course of business.
  • Oversees safety meetings and sub-committees, and distributes minutes of proceedings .
  • Manage the contractor Security Guard services in addition to all facility Security activities.
  • Represents the organization in community or industry safety groups and programs.

Qualifications Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university and 3-7 years of related experience in an industrial manufacturing setting. Mining preferred
  • Experience and understanding of MSHA regulations. Part 48 Instructor preferred
  • Experience and understanding of national consensus standards (ANSI, NFPA, etc.)
  • Experience in leading culture change and developing/implementing management system.
