Job Description

The Inventory Management Internship is an 8 - 10 week paid opportunity to work with the Morton Salt Supply Chain Planning organization at the company’s corporate office in the West Loop in downtown Chicago, IL or remotely.
Morton Salt is looking to develop a consistent, repeatable, and sustainable process and supporting tool to optimize safety stock calculations. This is a key initiative for Morton Salt, and it is looking to fill an interim position to support this strategic initiative.  The position will report to the Senior Director of Supply Chain Planning and interact with individuals across Morton’s Supply Chain Planning, Logistics and a lead consulting agency.
The primary responsibility of this position is to collaboratively design, develop, document and test a tool to calculate optimal safety stock inventory levels for Morton’s products across its network of plant and warehouse locations. The tool will leverage large, complex data sets consisting of demand, lead time, and service level data and needs to account for variability in the supply chain.

Responsibilities The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
Collect and analyze large sets of data
Develop and adhere to a work plan; provide weekly status updates in an agreed format
Understand and address business requirements defined by Morton
Design and develop a sustainable, user friendly tool that converts large complex data input sets into safety stock targets across Morton’s product portfolio
Incorporate safety stock targets into an SAP-compatible upload format, based on Morton requirements
Conduct analyses to derive insights to the viability & usability of the calculated targets
Communicate and interact effectively with business stakeholders to meet project milestones and goals
Develop testing plan to include user acceptance testing and development of test scripts
Develop user documentation for the tool
Provide knowledge transfer and training on the tool to Morton users

Qualifications Required Qualifications / Experience:
Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain or related field
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong attention to detail
Ability to adapt and change in a fast-paced business environment, based on company direction and guidance
Proficient in Microsoft Excel; experience in Microsoft Access is a plus
Experience manipulating large disparate sets of data
