Job Description

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for pro-actively maintaining and repairing production equipment to ensure the effective operation of machinery and mechanical/electrical equipment, while maintaining the quality of the product.

Responsibilities Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical/electrical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.


Performs preventative and predictive maintenance activities and makes necessary corrections and adjustments to control downtime and maintain maximum production and quality. Identifies and corrects root cause of repetitive failures.


Troubleshoots and repairs electrical and mechanical equipment. Analyzes mechanical, electrical and operational problems on manufacturing equipment and takes corrective action.

Locates sources of problems by observing electrical/mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments. Investigates equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, and makes recommendations.


Diagnoses system controls and software issues. Reviews, programs, troubleshoot and repairs Ladder Logic Electrical Diagrams and PLC Programs. Uses basic PC/PLC knowledge and electrical schematics to electrically install, modify, enhance and repair machines and mechanical equipment. Installs and troubleshoots PLCs and drives.


Provides technical (mechanical, electrical, pneumatic/hydraulic) expertise to the team to assist in creating and implementing the best solutions to manufacturing challenges.


Reads and interprets hydraulic and pneumatic schematics and machine manuals to perform safe and effective repairs and installations while using basic fluid concepts, practices, and theory.

Reads and interprets electrical schematics and machine manuals to perform safe and effective repairs while using basic electrical concepts, practices, and theory.


Use drawings/blueprints, schematic diagrams, service manuals, code manuals, and manufacturer's specifications to mechanically install, modify, enhance and repair machines and mechanical equipment.


Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts.

Installs facility lighting, wiring, machinery motors, electrical panels, breakers, airlines, water lines, or gas lines as needed.

Start/restarts machines and mechanical equipment after installations, modifications, enhancements, and repairs to ensure optimal operation. 


Fabricates repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.

Performs general facilities maintenance activities.

Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.


Assists with planning and implementing plant improvements and expansions.

Ensures all maintenance and repair activities are in compliance with OSHA, Federal, Local and plant safety standards.


Keeps working area clean, neat, and orderly, and tools clean and in good repair. Does other jobs of a related nature as directed.

Qualifications A high School diploma or the equivalent required
Three to five years operating as a maintenance mechanic/technician in a manufacturing environment preferred
Thorough knowledge of electric motors, hydraulic systems, pumps, presses, transformers, air compressors, air cylinders, PLC’s, electronics, control circuits, Logic and air control valves and regulators.
Thorough knowledge of clutches, bearings, brakes, gears, cams, pulleys, gas burners, regulators, burner controls, steam generators, steam controls, regulators, and heat exchangers.
Ability to operate lathes, mills, plasma cutters and cutting equipment to fabricate/repair machine/mechanical equipment and repair parts. Ability to perform various welding and fabrication operations to install, modify, enhance, repair, equipment/machinery.
