Job Description

The Payroll Analyst is responsible for the accurate processing of all payroll transactions for nearly 1,000 employees based in Canada. The jobholder resolves daily operational problems of intermediate complexity, being knowledgeable about all aspects of Canadian payroll to provide superior customer service to all employees. The jobholder also serves as the processor of Concur Travel & Expense reporting systems for all US and Canada employees. In addition, the jobholder will provide back-up assistance to US payroll processing when required.

Responsibilities Accurate Processing of Employee Payroll (60%)
Manage the integrity and processing of all Canadian payroll cycles for all salaried and hourly employees
Ensure all employees receive accurate pay statements reflecting proper pay for hours worked, salary / rate changes, retroactive pay calculations, terminations, benefit deductions, and disability / other payments.
Lead the completion of all tax-related and other filings with federal, provincial, and local agencies.
Input all employee tax withholding information and direct deposit bank account data.
Balance the salaried employee payroll registers to ensure taxable & pensionable wages are calculating properly and are accurately reflected on payroll checks.
Properly withhold deductions for benefits and other deductions from employee paychecks, and submit to the appropriate insurance, investment, or other entity on an accurate and timely basis.
Ensure employee time tracking for non-working hours (paid time off, vacation, floating holidays, etc.) is properly input into the payroll system as per Company policy.
Provide input to the month-end accrual process and the year-end T-4 (and other tax information) distribution process.  
Provide reconciliations, analysis, and support to the Payroll Manager, as needed.
Investigate inquiries from outside agencies as needed.
Accurate Processing of Concur Travel & Expense Reporting (20%)
Manage the integrity and processing of all travel & expense reports for all companies. 
Ensure submitted reports comply with company T&E Policy.
Input and maintain employee profiles, including company credit cards.
Provide input to the month-end process and the posting of T&E related transactions into SAP  
Provide reconciliations, analysis, and support to the Payroll Manager, as needed.
Internal controls (10%)
Complete and retain backup documentation, including payroll checklists, for each payroll processed in line with the Company record retention policy.
Maintain and monitor internal controls for payroll processing and related pay master data changes.
Review system reports to detect issues and take appropriate action to ensure issues are resolved in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
Payroll Documentation & Other Duties (10%)
Prepare and maintain documentation for all payroll processes, and update to reflect any major process changes.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Bachelors/Undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance
Minimum 3-5 years’ experience with processing Canadian payroll or accounting for mid- to large-size companies with multi-country operations.
Bi-lingual; French speaking
Strong analytical skills; ability to analyze details and identify financial issues
Excellent communication skills
Track record of success and self-starter, results oriented.
