 Our distribution centers are strategically located to serve US's geographically dispersed markets via truck, rail and marine transportation.Products made from evaporated salt (salt recovered from brine) are used in household and food products, as well as for agricultural, water softening and industrial purposes. Products made from mined rock salt are also sold to household and industrial markets for ice control, and to the water softening and general industrial trades.

Directs and coordinates activities of the Mill in the processing, packaging and shipping of Industrial, Food grade and Pharmaceutical grade salt by performing the tasks listed below either personally or through hourly bargaining unit employees. Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in loading and unloading salt products, package material, and ingredients from conveyances such as rail cars and over the road trucks. Supervises the moving and storing of salt products from production lines to the warehouse. Oversees work performed by Power and Production and Maintenance Departments on 3rd Shift. Oversees the safety, quality and quantity of work performed. Administers collective bargaining agreement. Assists Production Manager in planning necessary maintenance work and ensures that repairs and corrective actions are completed.

This is a 3rd shift, Sunday - Wednesday Position.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Accountable for Ensuring Compliance with all QC Requirements (GMP, HAACP) and Providing Leadership to Drive Continuous Improvements in Product Quality. Understands the importance of product safety, legality and quality.

Reviews production reports, performs walk-around, observes equipment operation, and confers with operators to improve safety and operational efficiency. Recommends measures to Manufacturing Superintendent to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of products; completes implementation of said recommendations.

Possesses a good working knowledge of material handling and packaging equipment. Inspects machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization.

Holds subordinates responsible for meeting production goals.

Oversees nightly production operation in Power and Production department. Assists in trouble-shooting of problem equipment. Directs operators in non-routine tasks.   Consults with Mill Superintendent or P&P Supervisors when unable to solve equipment problems that arise.

Oversees maintenance personnel on swing shift for scheduled jobs and directs personnel for break downs. Consults Maintenance Supervisors for assistance and direction when unable to solve equipment problems that arise.

Develops or revises standard operational and working practices, JSA’s and observes workers to ensure compliance with standards.

Assigns job tasks to workers according to loading and unloading schedules. Observes loading of trucks and rail cars to determine conformance to loading patterns and to prevent shifting or damage to palletized salt products during transit. Verifies materials loaded or unloaded against work order or bill of lading.

Directs workers to move materials or products to storage areas or production departments. Verifies correct product and packaging during production runs.

Resolves worker grievances or submits unsettled grievances to Mill Superintendent for action.

Compiles, stores, and retrieves production data.

Performs safety, quality and environmental inspections.

Reviews and analyzes production, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to determine causes of operating or production problems and unfavorable costs. Reviews weekly and monthly cost center reports and makes operational changes as required to increase favorability.

Develops and implements operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and improve safety and product quality.

Revises production schedules and priorities as result of equipment failure, operating problems or customer demand.

Consults with Mill Superintendent and engineering personnel relative to modification of machines and equipment in order to improve production and quality of products.

Requisitions tools, equipment and supplies.

Ensures compliance with Company and regulatory requirements.

Suggests, initiates, and implements plans to motivate workers to achieve goals.

Manages worker overtime.

Coordinates inspection and production records.

Interprets company policies and regulatory requirements to workers and follows and enforces safety policies, procedures and regulations.

Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.


Supervisory Responsibilities                                                


Directly supervises 5-15 unionized employees in the Mill/Power&Production Departments. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience                                               


Bachelor's degree in engineering or manufacturing/management from four-year college or university; or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Language Skills                                            


Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
