Job Description

Plans and supervises the activities of personnel engaged in underground halite extraction, mine ventilation, ground control, surface processing and packaging, and shipping operations.

Responsibilities Key Responsibilities:

  • Production Foreman may be required to supervise on surface or underground on any shift.
  • Surface- Supervise and coordinate the activities of workers engaged in the processing, packaging, loading and shipping of rock salt; so as to achieve production goals, minimize costs, and make effective use of personnel. Schedules shift production activates according to commitments.
  • Underground- Supervise mining activities at working face to ensure mining cycles continue in an effective, efficient manner. Ensures working faces meet company standards for safety, which exceeds Federal and State targets. Conducts pre-shift inspection of working faces in which miners will enter on assigned tasks. Ensures working sections are properly stocked with materials to ensure ground control, ventilation, and haulage systems are maintained.
  • Supervises in a manner that helps to create a positive labor relations climate. Meets with Union Stewards to resolve personnel problems and formal grievances. Interprets the contract and management policies to hourly employees.
  • Responsible for safety activities, including daily on-shift inspections, meeting with Union Safety Representatives on quarterly basis, training and orientation, accidents, investigations accompanying State and Federal regulations.
  • Maintenance Support: Reviews operator Check Lists to see that production equipment is in correct operating condition, enters OPI maintenance notifications into SAP, enters emergency work orders and completes orders with appropriate closure codes. Ensures maintenance employees on shift are completing scheduled work; enters PM on condition orders as required.
  • Maintains records of production, work performed, absenteeism, downtime, maintenance work requested, accidents, labor relations activities, and production inventories.
  • Responsible for making sure the quality control standards and procedures are being followed by the operators.
  • Alerts underground Foreman as to surface hazard/ limiting conditions including hoisting outages, adverse weather, or mechanical breakdowns when hoisting is halted.
  • Ensures employees are ready for assigned tasks on time, conducts pre and post shift meetings with crews. Discusses shift challenges and develops solution paths.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • 3 - 7 years of mining experience, preferred at least one of those years in a supervisory position
  • 1 - 2 years of experience in aggregate mineral processing a plus
  • Demonstrate ability to cooperate with co-workers and supervisors
  • Ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing, basic computer skills in Word and Excel, SAP experience a plus.
  • Must be able to obtain State of Ohio Underground Foreman’s Certification within one years’ time
  • Must be able to be deemed competent person by CFR30 46.2 within six months’ time.
