Job Description

This position, based in Fairport, Ohio, is responsible for managing all quality and environmental activities and programs at the site level. It serves as the management representative for all applicable areas within Quality and Environmental Services to ensure that we satisfy our customers, comply with corporate and local/state/federal regulatory requirements, and continuously improve our system, processes and culture.


Responsibilities QC/Environmental:

  • To develop, implement and monitor policies and procedures
  • Provide support to all departments and all internal and external customers
  • Through inspections, identifies and monitors compliance of surface and underground manufacturing and maintenance operations
  • Develop and implement training program
  • Ability to communicate all regulatory compliance requirements to all departments
  • Works with little or no supervision.       Keeps Facility Manager apprised of Quality Control and Environmental issues
  • Acts as coordinator between company and regulatory agencies
  • Tracks data and completes monthly KPI’s for corporate

  • Acts as ISO 9001 Management Representative/Quality Management Representative for the site Internal Auditor
  • Coordinates and oversees testing/performs testing to support quality and ensure products meet specifications
  • Issues monthly Key Performance Indicator reports to corporate
  • Ensures proper people (stockpile managers, local staff) are contacted with quality results
  • Investigates and responds to consumer complaints and customer complaints (QM10 notifications in SAP)
  • Issues vendor complaints (QM01 notifications in SAP)
  • External: Performs Ice melt warehouse inspections/training
  • Enters results into local databases and SAP

  • Acts as ISO 14001 Management Representative/Environmental Management Representative for the site

  • Monitor the disposal of regulated and non-regulated waste materials to ensure compliance.
  • Ensures all environmental inspections are completed as scheduled and are properly documented. Verifies that noncompliant findings are appropriately addressed.
  • Collects and prepares monitoring data required by environmental permits, regulations or internal standards. Completes and submits required reports on time to regulatory agencies and to the corporate environmental group.
  • Has general authority to shut down operations if compliance control equipment is nonfunctional.
  • Works with Facility personnel to minimize environmental incidents, deviations and exceedances. Oversees investigations and the development of effective corrective or preventive action plans (CPA Reports).
  • Develops, maintains and implements facility management tools (calendar, action log, training matrix, etc.) Performs periodic reviews and updates of regulatory plans (i.e., SPCC and SWP3) and environmental SOPs

Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related technical function required; with a minimum of 5 years working experience in the manufacturing environment(s). Minimum of 3-5 years in a quality management role. 

  • Highly self-motivated, high energy and ability to work independently, show initiative, and drive positive change in system, processes, and culture.
  • Demonstrated experience in Quality Management Systems.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO certification Requirements.
  • Knowledge of MS Office and ERP systems; SAP preferred.
  • Experience supporting 3rd Party audits (i.e. ISO 9001, NSF)
  • Ability to understand and comply with all company policies and procedures as well as all applicable local/state/federal regulations.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and provide after-hours support and occasional weekend operation for criticalquality issues.
  • Strong Interpersonal skills, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with cross functional teams and thrives under pressure in a fast paced and challenging plant environment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and present information to all levels within the plant, throughout the Morton Salt organization as well as internal and external auditors/customers.
  • Must be a US Citizen or authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
