Job Description

The Quality Assurance Manager, based in Grand Saline, Texas, is responsible for managing all quality activities and programs at the site level.  It serves as the management representative for all applicable areas within Quality and Food Safety to ensure that we satisfy our customers, comply with corporate and local/state/federal regulatory requirements, and continuously improve our system, processes and culture.
 
 

Responsibilities  
 

  • Leads the plant in all Food Safety, Packaging Quality and Product Quality related activities for Human Food, Animal Feed, USP/Pharmaceutical, Oil/Gas Industry and Bulk De-Icing products.
  • Leads the consumer/customer complaint investigations, including conducting root cause analysis, driving corrective and preventative actions (CAPAs) into manufacturing processes and/or product specification, ensures compliance, and checking effectiveness of CAPAs.
  • Leads the plant in determining the annual Quality Program training needs for all employees.
  • Serves as the primary liaison within the plant for all Quality Programs – key customers are Corporate Quality, Customer Service and Consumer Affairs (for customer and consumer quality complaint issues), Third Party Auditors/External Regulatory Agency (i.e. FDA), Third Party Vendors (i.e. calibration company).
  • Serves as the Food Safety Program Team Leader for the plant to ensure the Food Safety Program is established, implemented, maintained. And to ensure it is reviewed and updated annually.
  • Conducts regular reviews of the facility’s Pre-requisite Programs (PRPs), GMP Compliance, and Sanitation/Housekeeping Compliance.
  • Maintains and updates the plant mock recall program and conducts traceability exercises, as required.
  • Manages the Quality Management System for the plant, to include develop/revise/maintain and implement all plant level policies, procedures, and work instructions that affect quality and/or safety of the products.
  • Oversees quality laboratory testing and reviews/approves results.
  • Assists in determining the disposition of all product placed on hold due to incidednt, out of specification test results, obsolete or slow-moving inventory.
  • Manages the site Environmental Monitoring Program; collects and conducts swabbing when necessary.
  • Maintain and improve Certification Audit performance (BRC and ISO).
 

Qualifications  

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Food Science or a relevant technical function required; with a minimum of five (5) years working experience in manufacturing environments.
  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years in a quality management role.
 

Specific Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

 

  • Highly self-motivated, high energy and ability to work independently, show initiative, and drive positive change in system, processes, and culture.
  • Demonstrated experience in Quality Management Systems.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO and NSF Standards and Regulatory Requirements of FDA FSMA, HACCP Programs; PCQI Certified preferred.
  • Knowledge of MS Office and ERP systems; SAP preferred.
  • Experience supporting 3rd Party audits (i.e. BRC, ISO 9001, NSF) and Regulatory unannounced audit (i.e., FDA)
  • Ability to understand and comply with all company policies and procedures as well as all applicable local/state/federal regulations.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and provide after-hours support to 24/5 and occasional weekend operation for critical to quality issues.
  • Ability to obtain the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (or TWIC).
  • Strong Interpersonal skills, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with cross functional teams and thrives under pressure in a fast paced and challenging plant environment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and present information to all levels within the plant, throughout the Morton Salt organization as well as internal and external auditors/customers.
