Morton Salt prides itself on delivering the highest quality products to customers and consumers for the past 170 years.  Morton Salt Inc. is comprised of approx. 23 facilities in Canada, North America and Chile and this role is accountable for approximately 8 of those facilities. 

This role has a dual purpose \u2013 supporting and leading a portion of quality management team, in addition to leading, designing and managing the network Food Safety and Environmental Monitoring Program.

With the support of a Regional Quality Manager, which reports directly into this role, this role supports the local Quality Managers with incident escalation, incident management and troubleshooting. 

In addition to network quality management, this role is accountable for the creation and implementation of a high caliber Food Safety and Environmental Monitoring Program across the network, including metrics and reporting. 


•Provide strategic and operational leadership and guidance to site Quality Managers and teams, External Manufacturing (co-man/co-pack), Packaging facilities, Supplier Quality and Regulatory teams within Morton Salt Inc.

•Ownership and management of incidents and quality deviations according to internal food safety/environmental standards, guiding business stakeholders and decisions.

• Provide guidance for compliance to internal and external policies, quality standards and legal requirements.

• Accountable for the development and implementation of a network wide Food Safety and Environmental Monitoring Program including quality policies, standards, procedures and support IT systems and solutions.

•  Accountable to drive tracking and trending of deviations within the FS/Environmental Monitoring Program and identify continuous improvement opportunities

• Identify and drive metrics and reporting against KQA, KPIs and Quality Non-Conformances and CAPAs

• Engaged member of the Quality Leadership Team with active participation in strategy setting, driving continuous improvement, and setting a tone for quality culture

Creation, implementation, training and management of various Food Safety and Environmental Monitoring programs.


Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in a Science: such as Microbiology, Chemistry, Biology, Food Science or related subject. Master’s Degree preferred.

• 7-10 years of experience in Microbiology, Quality Control, Quality Assurance, or Functional Expert in the food, agricultural, pharmaceutical or chemical industry.

•Demonstrated experience in the management and creation of Food Safety, Environmental and Microbiology Programs across multiple locations.

•Demonstrated ability to manage and lead teams thru problem solving, troubleshooting and program development/implementation.

Certifications/Affiliations Required

•Food Microbiology, Food Safety/HACCP Certification, PCQI

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

• Must have demonstrated ability in priority management, organization, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.  Must be internally motivated, a self-starter and be able to problem solve, identify and resolve systemic program issues and implement change across the organization.  They must be able to work across cross-functional project teams and effectively influence and drive change across various levels across the business.

•        Demonstrated effective people and performance management with managing direct reports.

This role is based at our Corporate Headquarters in Chicago and requires approx. 20% travel.
