Sr. Quality and Food Safety Manager: Quality Management Systems in Chicago, IL at Morton Salt

Morton Salt prides itself on delivering the highest quality products to customers and consumers for the past 170 years.  Morton Salt Inc. Americas OU is comprised of approximately 23 facilities in Canada, North America and Chile of which, this role is responsible for approximately 7-8 of those sites. 
 
This role has a dual purpose - supporting a portion of the Americas OU regional quality management and leading, designing and managing the network Quality Management System, including metrics and reporting. 
 
With the support of a Regional Quality Manager, which reports directly into this role, this role supports the local Quality Managers with incident escalation, incident management and troubleshooting. This consists of the creation, implementation and management of various Quality Management Programs, providing strategic and operational leadership, guidance to the site Quality teams, External Manufacturing, Supplier Quality and the Regulatory team within Morton Salt.

Responsibilities Provide strategic and operational leadership and guidance to site Quality teams, External Manufacturing (co-man/co-pack), Packaging facilities, Supplier Quality and Regulatory teams within Morton Salt.
Ownership and management of incidents and quality deviations according to internal standards, guiding business stakeholders and decisions.
Ensure compliance to internal and external policies, quality standards and legal requirements.
Accountable for the development and implementation of a network wide Quality Management System including quality policies, standards, procedures and support IT systems and solutions.
Accountable to drive tracking and trending of outages within the Quality Management System and identify continuous improvement opportunities.
Identify and drive metrics and reporting against KQA, KPIs and Quality Non-Conformances and CAPAs.
Demonstrated effective people and performance management with managing direct reports.
Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional project teams and drive change.
Engaged member of the Quality Leadership Team with active participation in strategy setting, driving  continuous improvement, and setting a tone for quality culture.

Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in a Science: such as Microbiology, Chemistry, Biology, Food Science or related subject. Master’s Degree preferred.
7-10 years of experience in Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Functional Expert in the food, agricultural, pharmaceutical or chemical industry.
Demonstrated experience in Quality Management System development and implementation across multiple locations.
Demonstrated ability to manage and lead teams thru problem solving, troubleshooting and program development/implementation
Excellent organizational, influence and interpersonal skills.  Successfully interact and communicate with various levels across the business from plant floor associates to senior management.
 
Certifications/Affiliations Required
HACCP Certification, FSMA – PCQI and GFSI (BRC or SQF) Certification Preferred
 
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Must have demonstrated ability in priority management, organization, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.  Must be internally motivated and a self-starter.  This person must be able to problem solve, identify and resolve systemic program issues and implement change across the organization.  They must be able to work across teams and effectively influence.
